Earlier this year, New York State, through their Department of Environmental Conservation, is providing accessible recreation opportunities on public land for their citizens on their DEC website.
Accessible recreation features make it possible for all New Yorkers, including those with disabilities to enjoy trails, camping, fishing, hunting, and all that our great outdoors has to offer.
The map provides information about education centers, hiking trails, primitive camping, wildlife viewing, waterway access sites, and land areas statewide.
- 84 locations with boating facilities
- 58 locations with fishing facilities
- 44 locations with camping facilities
- 50 locations with hiking facilities
- 10 locations with beach access
- 47 locations with picnic facilities
The cornerstone of accessible recreation is that it provides “access” by recognizing the need to recreate for all and removing any barriers or impediments. To help promote equitable access and experience, DEC provides this online tool for locating accessible recreation!
